Wondering How to Pay for Classroom Technology?

Most educators know that classroom technology is engaging, but finding the funding to actually purchase these great tools is the real challenge.  Check out these 3 steps for successful grant writing!

Step 1:  Develop a Plan

Grant reviewers want to have a good understanding of how you plan to use the money if you're awarded, so having a clear and concise plan is important.  Make sure your plan answers these questions:
  • What do you need the grant for?
  • What will it enable you to accomplish?
  • Who will the program help?
  • How will the grant address your issue?
  • What and who will be impacted?
  • Who will deliver the services?
  • What are the anticipated start and end dates?

Step 2:  Do your Researh

Your identified need must be supported by backup documentation, which could include test scores, socioeconomic status, parental involvement, and more.  Just make sure you allow enough time for people to get you the information you need.  Make sure you know your districts policies and procedures for submitting a grant, and be sure your business office is aware of your proposal submission.

Step 3:  Write your Proposal

Developing a clear statement can be the toughest part of any grant application.  A well-written goal with a clear and concise structure that addresses the specific impact on and needs of those served could set you apart from the competition.  If technology integration is your goal, be sure to first address improved academic performance and how the technology is a support for that goal, not the goal itself.

Here are some additional grant writing tips to consider:

·         Make sure to apply for grants that fit your needs, create goals within your district that align with the goals of your application, and set realistic expectations.

·         Study the winning proposals from previous years.

·         Allow plenty of time to complete the proposal.

·         Read the application guidelines carefully, and follow all instructions and timelines.

·         Include external partners on your writing team, and keep them involved throughout the project.

·         Gather data before your start to write.

·         Avoid piecing together previous proposals.

·         Though several people may contribute to the writing process, the final copy of your proposal should be written by one individual.

·         Stay away from generalizations.

·         Keep all relevant documentation at hand for reporting purposes.

·         Don't promise what you can't deliver.

These tips have been shared by Mimio, but are useful for any type of technology grant!
