With the hope of increasing their TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) science scores, Heights Elementary School of Laredo, TX needed a resource that would help the teachers focus on particular standards that needed additional instruction. With a dedicated faculty and commitment to their student's success, the last piece of the puzzle was to implement iCORE.
Adriana Padilla, Principal at the school says, "iCORE provides a rich source of TAKS aligned activities and media clips for our faculty. It has truly opened a whole new world for our teachers and helped us achieve incredible results in our TAKS Science program. In an effort to continue this trend, we decided to implement iCORE Math modules in grades 3-5 to boost our TAKS Math Scores."
The plan of action was to first implement iCORE Science into every classroom at Heights Elementary. They then trained the entire staff on iCORE in order to get the whole school involved. The final step was to use iCORE to provide multiple activities for each standard that needed improvement. As is turns out, the plan worked, and the results speak for themselves; TAKS Science scores jumped from 75% for the 2007-2008 school year to 92% for the 2008-2009 school year!
